"Rely on the Law and not upon Persons" not created by Nichiren but was created by Gautama Buddha, even subsequent bodhisattvas also followed this great teaching, because it can be said the center of Buddhism and the Buddhist thought!! Buddhists have not regarded themselves as very highly important than the teachings transmitted by the Buddha. Therefore your present Buddhist practice should be focus on Gohonzon, Lotus Sutra, and Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo!!! Buddhist practices are all about self practices and self realization to achieve not only true happiness, also to realize the Universal Truth so is not to be too attached to earthly desires, although Nichiren had said earthly desires are enlightenment was not asking you to attach more on earthly desires, but to select the correct choices!! Live your daily life with wisdom, courage, determination and with confidence. You don't have to be taught how to live your own life but you realize yourselves after chanting for some years. Thus is not necessary to have a Master in Person on top of you to instruct!! And so why you need to donate so much money for him created wealth, yet you need to suffer for him?? This totally lacking wisdom!! This is not the true Buddhist practice and so isn't right!!
